Planning your wedding reception and want to make sure guests
know everything they should do? Want the
DJ to announce, at least twice, that guests need to sign the guestbook? Want to announce at least twice that the
photo booth is open? Another announcement
that it’s closing? Announce someone’s
birthday? A few times about a guest’s
missing phone? Or how about announcing
that a certain song is dedicated to someone?
Want to make sure the guests know your hashtag? Announce about your signature cocktail? Don’t do it.
Do guests need to be told to sign the guest book? No. A
guest book is pretty much part of every wedding and guests know they’re
supposed to sign it. Telling them to do
it over and over won’t make a bit of difference. Just have the book by the entrance, and
you’re fine. A guest found a phone? Someone lost their phone? Don’t worry, you don’t need to announce
it. They will go right to the DJ and let
us know. It seems like we become the
lost and found at events, so those announcements aren’t necessary.
A wedding reception is not like a radio station, where they
do shout outs or announce the name of the songs being played. A wedding DJ is not a radio DJ. Have you ever known someone who talks so much
that you tune them out? They go on and
on, and you eventually stop listening to them?
Then don’t do the same thing at your wedding reception! Your DJ should already be announcing your
entrance, the first dance, the blessing, the opening of the buffet (or worse,
calling out table numbers), the father/daughter dance, the mother/son dance,
the toasts, the cake cutting, the bouquet, the garter, the last dance song and
the exit. Do you really want to add more
announcements on top of that?
Remember, the more guests hear announcements, they more they tune them out. Eventually, they don’t listen to a word the DJ has to say, and the reception ends up confusing, as nobody knows what’s happening. They’re not there to constantly hear your DJ’s voice: they’re there to have great time and celebrate with you! So, keep it simple, let the DJ announce only the necessities, and watch your guests have fun on the dance floor!
