Congratulations Sheldon and Jennifer

This reception; with a color scheme of black, white and red; had some unique aspects that I’m sure you future Brides and Grooms will love to hear about. For the wedding cake, there wasn’t one! Instead, they served assorted cheesecakes. You know the guests loved choosing between all the delicious flavors: pumpkin, blueberry, plain, chocolate, you name it!

For favors, the Bride and Groom had decks of playing cards on the tables. They were tied with a red bow and had a tag reading “Suited for Love.” Too cute! At one point, I saw some people sitting around a table, playing cards and having a great time. A young boy apparently decided he was good at card tricks and took his deck around to everyone saying “Pick a card” and then he’d try to guess what you had. Anyway, to match the card favors, Sheldon and Jennifer had a playing card guest book. As the guests entered, they wrote a message to the newlyweds on a vintage playing card, which was dropped into a bowl. I’m sure the cards will later be mounted in a cool album for viewing. The card favors were chosen because Jennifer and Sheldon met while playing poker.

This was another wedding that had a lot of kids and you know I loved it! There were so many adorable little ones playing on the dance floor. It was so cute! One nice touch I noticed was that the Bride and Groom provided coloring books and crayons for the kids, and I saw the kids enjoying them. And get this – the Bride and Groom’s picture was on the front of the coloring book, which was titled, “Happily Ever After”.

After the first dance, Jennifer dancing with her brother and Sheldon dancing with his mother, we did an Anniversary dance. I’ve discussed this in previous posts, and I always love the response it gets. Not only is it a great way to kick off the dancing, but it’s a nice way to honor marriage. The longest married couple at this reception had been married 31 years. What a great example for the Newlyweds!

After a nice toast by the Best Man; a fun cake cutting (in which the Groom got a little cheese cake on his face); the bouquet and garter; and an afternoon of music, dancing, and fun; Sheldon and Jennifer took off. Congratulations to the Newlyweds and enjoy your honeymoon in Las Vegas!

Congratulations Aaron and Melissa

This wedding reception was held at the banquet room of the Aquarium Restaurant on the Kemah Boardwalk, and the view was great! We could look out over the water or the Boardwalk. If you haven’t been to the Boardwalk since Hurricane Ike, you should come back. It’s all up and running and looks like normal.

Melissa was such a beautiful Bride and her gown was absolutely gorgeous. The colors of the evening were evergreen and silver and it worked perfectly with the colors of the room. The colors were tied in with the centerpieces, which were made of boughs of evergreen with candles nestled in the middle, with red and white petals around them. The bouquets were a creamy white with evergreen boughs in them as well. It all made for a pretty, wintery effect, and was perfect for just after Christmas.

After the first dance, father/daughter dance, and mother/son dance, we opened the dancing with the Anniversary Dance (you may know it as the Married Couples Dance). The longest married couple in the room was Melissa’s grandparents, who have been married for 57 years! Their advice to the Newlyweds was simple: “just love each other” and “always say yes”. (That last one, from the grandfather, got a round of laughs) Then Melissa and Aaron presented the couple with their bouquet and garter. The grandparents were so happy to receive them!

One thing I must mention is that this was a smaller reception than most, around 50 people. Yet it was simply wonderful! Often, brides and grooms are worried about small receptions: worried that people won’t dance, that it will be boring, that the guests will leave early. But we have found that is usually not the case. The guests really enjoy smaller receptions. They get to really talk to each other as well as the bride and groom, and by the end of the night, they’re all friends. Plus, smaller weddings are more intimate, and have a closer, family feel to them. They can really be quite special, just as this one was.

After some great toasts (in which we found out that the groom was in the hospital just a few days ago – eek!!) and the cake cutting, the newlyweds spend time visiting with their family and friends before heading out on to their honeymoon in the Bahamas. Congratulations and have a great time!!

Congratulations Ryan and Ann

Last night we had the pleasure of providing entertainment for a beautiful bride and handsome groom. Their winter theme featured the colors of plum and olive, and they looked so elegant together! The favors they had for their guests were Christmas ornaments that were hanging from a Christmas tree right by the sign-in book. They were hung with personalized ribbon featuring the bride and groom’s names. The ornaments were in plum, olive, and silver, to match the winter theme. The whole effect was so pretty! The centerpieces consisted of matching ornaments in tall glass cylinders – very cool - and Ryan and Ann had stockings hanging on their head table.

Their family members were so much fun! They were on the dance floor from the first song to the last. There were so many people dancing to The Chicken Dance that they almost overflowed the large dance floor. The bride’s family is Czech, so you know that they filled the floor to Polka songs as well. Speaking of them being Czech, there was a toast that paid homage to their heritage. All of the immediate family members were called onto the dance floor and given tiny little glasses filled with some kind of alcohol. From their expressions after drinking, it must have been pretty potent! We knew that side of the family was large but we didn’t realize how large until we saw them taking a group picture: it was ¾ of the room! They were so funny, dancing as they got their picture taken.

And, once again, I noticed that there were a lot of kids at the wedding. There was one adorable little girl in a pink frilly dress that stole everyone’s heart, including mine. She loved to dance and loved the music and was just having a blast as everyone danced. It’s always fun seeing the little ones all dressed up and having fun at a reception.

So after a great evening of food, cake, drinks, and plenty of dancing, the night came to a close. Ryan and Ann headed out through a shower of bubbles and flower petals into a car filled with balloons. Congratulations Ryan and Ann, and have a great honeymoon!

SM Company Christmas Party

What a good time we had last night! We had the privilege of working at Wyndehaven Terrace, which has beautiful ballrooms, great food, and good service. The people with SM (my abbreviation for the company) were so nice. We could tell that the employees all genuinely like each other and that they have a great time when they get together. The party planners and the company did such a good job of providing many, many door prizes to the employees and spouses, and you can tell it was really appreciated. The prizes included restaurant gift cards, a GPS, Rockets tickets, massages, an iPod touch, and more. Wow! We couldn’t believe the prizes they gave out – what an awesome company! And for the grand prize, a 37” flat screen HDTV!

To make the party even more fun, they had a Vegas Night theme. There were gaming tables where the guests could play poker, craps, 21 and roulette. Everyone seemed to really enjoy playing. In addition to calling out the winners of the prizes, we provided music for those who wished to dance.

It was a great party enjoyed by all, including us. It’s so nice in this tough economy to see a company set aside time to show their gratitude to their hard working employees by providing such a fun party.

Congratulations Sean and Nancy

We had the pleasure of working this reception at Brady’s Landing, and the room was absolutely beautiful! The wedding colors were ivory, chocolate, and gold, which complemented the room perfectly. There were so many small details that helped carry out the colors. The tablecloths and chair covers were ivory, and the chairs had brown sashes. There were ivory and chocolate brown favor boxes on the tables, and Jordan almonds wrapped in matching tulle. Personalized water bottles on each table had specially made labels with Nancy and Sean’s names, their wedding date, and a list of ‘love’ ingredients. There were ivory personalized napkins as well. The card box was covered in an ivory fabric with brown accents. There were also small bells to ring out to make the newlyweds kiss. Even their cake matched: it had ivory tiers with different chocolate accents on each layer. It was clear that the couple spent a lot of time making sure everything matched perfectly!

I always talk about how I love the little babies, and there were so many of them at this reception! I think there was a baby under the age of one or a child at every other table! And they always look so cute in their little dress up outfits.

This group was lots of fun: they were on the dance floor from the first song. We had the Party Package for this reception (that’s when we give the guests props like saxophones, sunglasses, leis, and other fun stuff). They loved it! There was a Dollar Dance and a large amount of guests participated, which is always nice. The bouquet and garter came later, and then we had at least an hour for non-stop dancing. The Cha Cha Slide, The Cupid Shuffle, and Single Ladies were all big hits.

Instead of a formal exit, Sean and Nancy choose to stay until the end of the reception and just casually leave when they were ready. They had plenty of fun before they bid farewell to their friends and family and headed off to their new life together. Congratulations to the newlyweds!

Congratulations Mark and Jackie

Saturday night’s wedding was so elegant! It started later than most, at 8:30, and the candlelight reflecting off the windows made for a beautiful reception. The colors were black and white with red roses, which was gorgeous. The floor-length black table cloths were so dramatic: you just can’t beat them for a formal evening event. At this point I just must say something about the cake, as it was so beautiful! It was white and three tiered, with black ribbons at the bottom of each layer. But it was the details that made the cake so amazing: black scroll designs running up each tier, starting at the ribbon. It’s hard to explain but it was stunning.

We played Sweet Caroline during dinner and it was fun watching the guests at the tables sing along. At that point, we knew which table would be the party table for the night! (Funny, but at each wedding, there always seems to be one party table.) It turns out that Saturday night’s party group was from New Jersey. Gotta love hearing people say “youse” instead of “y’all”! There were dance floor sing-alongs to Living On A Prayer, and Don’t Stop Believing, which was the last dance.

A few other details about the day: Jackie, the Bride, was so beautiful. She has a smile that just lights up the room. Mark, the Groom, was so nice and really took an active role with us planning the reception. The toast by the Best Man was one of the best and most hilarious we’ve ever heard. He told us how a text message resulted in Jackie and Mark’s marriage. I’d love to hear that whole story. And, a separate embarrassing text message from the Groom, intended for the Bride only, was accidentally sent to the Best Man and ended up being read during the toast. It was so funny and so sweet.

After a night of eating, drinking, dancing, and fun, and Mark’s fraternity brothers gathering in a circle to sing, the newlyweds ran through a line of sparklers and into their limousine. So, to the Newlyweds, congratulations “tons and bunches”!!

Congratulations Jonathan and Elizabeth

We’re so happy that this couple finally had their wedding. It was originally scheduled to take place the weekend that Hurricane Ike hit. Can you imagine what Jonathan and Elizabeth had to go through to reschedule, trying to work with the church, the vendors, and their family members and friends? Yikes! But they did it and their beautiful wedding finally became a reality.

Elizabeth and Jonathan had a unique item on their sign in table. There were cards that the guests could fill out with what they predicted the Bride and Groom would be doing in 1 year, 25 years, how many kids they would have, etc. I bet they had a lot of fun filling those out. And once again, this was a wedding that was full of gorgeous kids. There were so many adorable little ones!

The colors were black and white with red floral accents, which was very elegant. The tables had white tablecloths with black runners, with red petals around the centerpieces. The guest favors were small red tea light candles. The other red decor was our uplights. We had them accenting the head table, the cake table, and the gift table. Uplights are such a pretty way to bring more of your colors to your wedding, and are an elegant look as well. At this reception we saw something that we’ve never seen before: chair covers that were half black and half white. I don’t mean alternating colors. I mean each chair cover was made of both colors. They looked great and really tied in the color scheme well.

So, the afternoon finally came to a close after the special dances, toasts, cake cutting, and bouquet and garter. The newlyweds ran through a shower of bubbles into their well decorated car, and then drove off into their new life together. Congratulations!

Congratulations Chase and Caryn

This reception was held at the Silver Sycamore in Pasadena. The hall has been there for at least 3 years and it still looks brand new! It’s so pretty inside that the word “hall” doesn’t really describe it well. There are chandeliers, a beautiful scrollwork door, gorgeous tile on the floor, and windows on 3 sides. The colors of the day were brown and ivory, with dark red floral accents. They were very pretty, especially for a fall wedding, and they looked very nice in the room. If you are still looking for a ceremony or reception venue, make sure to check out the Silver Sycamore. It’s gorgeous! And, don’t forget to talk to Jackie, the owner. She’s a great lady who always does a good job for her brides.

This reception was a bit different in that it was a delayed reception. (I’ve noticed that we’re starting to do these more often.) Chase and Caryn were married a few weeks ago in another state but held this reception to celebrate their marriage with all their Texas family and friends. (One nice aspect of delayed receptions is that the bride and groom are usually at the door welcoming their guests as they enter. They get to spend much more time with their guests, as they aren’t rushing from the ceremony to the reception or constantly being pulled aside for pictures.) To get back to the details, there was a digital photo frame on the sign-in table so the guests could see pictures of the out-of-state wedding and reception. After dinner, there was a slide show that also had pictures of the original wedding along with growing up pictures. It was a great way for the guests to be a part of the couple’s marriage.

At one point, Caryn’s parents made a special presentation to the newlyweds, and it was something we hadn’t seen before. They had a basket filled with meaningful items and scripture to accompany each. For example, an eraser meant that once the couple came to a compromise, they should erase the issues of the past. Toothpicks were a reminder to not pick at each other. The newlyweds were also presented with their first bible as a married couple. The presentation and basket of items was a touching gift to celebrate the marriage of Caryn and Chase.

After an evening of good food, great cake, music and fun, the guests bid the newlyweds farewell. Congratulations to Chase and Caryn!

Congratulations Grady and Heather

Saturday night we had another beautiful ceremony and reception. The ceremony was held outside on the patio at Bay Oaks Country Club and the reception inside in the ballroom. The ceremony began shortly after the Wings Over Houston Air Show, so we enjoyed watching some cool plane maneuvers while setting up. The ceremony was sweet and funny, personalized because the Officiant was a relative of the groom. Heather looked absolutely beautiful in her white gown with pick ups on the skirt, while Grady looked handsome in his black tux with grey vest and tie.

The colors of this wedding were black and white, with touches of green to reflect the Bride and Groom’s Irish Heritage (I originally wrote that it was only the Groom's heritage but Heather emailed me to let me know that it was both of them. oops - sorry Heather!). :-) Green accents included a Celtic design on the bride’s cake, ribbon with 4 leaf clovers on the Flower Girl’s basket, a green ribbon around the Ring Bearer’s pillow, green ribbons on the ceremony programs, and flags of Ireland on the sweetheart table. The theme was also brought into the ceremony when we played Celtic versions of Canon in D and Bridal Chorus. Near the sign in-table was a deed to a piece of land in Ireland that the Bride and Groom had bought. Now, that’s unique!

At this wedding there were, once again, so many sweet little babies and kids! I was talking to Julie, the great Events Coordinator at Bay Oaks, and we both noticed that children are once again being invited to weddings. It seems like the trend for the past few years was adult only weddings, but now we’re seeing kids again. I don’t mind because I love the little babies!

Now for the dancing: The mother/son dance was so funny! The Groom’s mom was dancing him all over the floor, with twirling, a little Jitterbug, and all kinds of fun dance moves. You can tell she’s a fun woman! We got the dance floor open with the Anniversary Dance (also called a Married Couples Dance). The longest married couple was the Groom’s grandparents, who have been married 62 years. They looked so happy together and set a great example for all of their family. Congrats to them!

One other thing I want to mention about Heather and Grady’s families and friends was how well they got along. You could tell that they genuinely liked each other. They were dancing together, talking, laughing, and having a great time. It’s always so nice to see that!

After the toasts and the cake cutting (which involved frosting on noses and faces), we got back to the events of the evening and lots of fun dancing. After the Money Dance and Bouquet and Garter, Grady and Heather ran through a shower of bubbles (in green containers, of course) to get in their limo and head off to their honeymoon. Congratulations to a great couple!

Congratulations Stephen and Tracy

We provided the ceremony and reception music for this Sunday wedding, which was held at Bay Oaks Country Club. The fall color combination was so pretty. The Bride and Groom choose ivory with sage, and the flowers were in rust/fall colors. The Bride’s cake matched with its ivory icing and sage ribbon trim. The unusual aspect of this wedding was one of the groom’s cakes. He had two, one that showed off his love of duck hunting, and the other was a three tiered round cake covered in black fondant with red flames running up the sides. Too cool! The couple also had favors that went with their fall theme; leaf-shaped cookies at each place setting that were personalized with their last initial. They were tied in a bag with a leaf cookie cutter tied to each. Needless to say, there weren't any favors left at the end of the night!

There were so many little ones at this wedding, and you know how I love the kids. They were dancing, crawling, and just being adorable. It was so cute when the Flower Girl started to cry just before going down the aisle. (Note to future Brides and Grooms, this happens quite often and when it does, it’s okay. It makes for great pictures and the guests think it’s so sweet. So don’t worry!) The ceremony was so pretty, as it was held on the back patio of the country club, with the gorgeous grounds behind the arch. The arch was decorated with fall leaves, to match the theme.

So after an evening of food, drink, dancing, and plenty of yummy cake, it was time for the exit. The Bride and Groom headed out through bubbles to find their car decorated with streamers and cans, compliments of the groomsmen. Congratulations to the newlyweds and enjoy your Honeymoon!

Congratulations Tommy and Rosimar

We had the pleasure of performing at a new venue for this reception. It’s called Picazo Restaurant, located downtown, near Minute Maid Park. They have a gorgeous private events room upstairs, with a great view. The décor is beautiful, from the vast windows to the chivari chairs. And don’t forget the good food and awesome staff. It is a very pretty venue for smaller receptions (maybe 150 people or less?).

So, back to the Bride and Groom and the details. From the time we met Tommy and Rosimar at a bridal show, we knew we’d have a blast at their reception. They are so fun, and such an interesting couple! Their friends are a varied group, but everyone gets along well and they have a good time together. Some of the friends had their hair dyed black with fuchsia accents, which matched the wedding colors. How cool! Oh, and I can’t forget to mention the fuchsia ice sculpture. That was the first time we’ve seen a colored ice sculpture at one of our receptions and it was so pretty. As I said, the colors were black with fuchsia accents, and they looked so pretty together from the linens, to the flowers, to the bridesmaid’s dresses, to the groomsmen’s ties. Everything matched perfectly. We were shocked to find out that Tommy made the Bride’s and Groom’s cakes! This is the second wedding we’ve done in all our years where this happened, and it’s so unique. I love to see a Groom involved in the wedding, especially with something like the cakes. They cakes were beautiful and delicious (the Bride’s cake was hazelnut with raspberry and the Groom’s cake was peanut butter and banana), and everyone loved them.

The dancing was non-stop, as we had expected. There was a conga line going around the room by the fourth song, and it wasn’t even The Conga - wow, what a crowd! They were dancing and singing along and getting crazy on the dance floor all night long. The little Flower Girl Gisselle was adorable, and quite a dancer! How do kids her age learn to dance so well? But then the Ring Bearer Abraham (with his Mohawk) got on the floor and showed us some pretty darn good moves also. Just when we thought the night couldn’t get any wilder, the Bride got on the mic and belted out Don’t Stop Believing. She can really sing!

So finally, after a long night of dancing and partying, it was time to go. The newlyweds ran though sparklers, jumped into their limo, and took off for a Jamaican honeymoon. Congratulations to you both!

Congratulations Ryan and Tiffany

This reception was our first after all the Hurricane Ike madness, so it was nice to get back into our normal routine. The event was held at Bay Oaks Country Club, which always does a great job. I was surprised to see how looked beautiful the grounds looked so soon after a hurricane: you’d never even know Ike had hit!

The color scheme was beautiful: black and white with bright jewel toned flowers. They had chair ties I’d never seen before: sheer black with a raised black damask print. So gorgeous! The tables were topped with white linens and black napkins, candle centerpieces on black fabric, and black and white menus on alternating place settings. It all came together perfectly for this elegant evening reception.

One unique aspect to this wedding was that we had performed at the Bride’s sister’s wedding just 6 months ago, in April. It was nice to see the previous Bride and Groom as well as the family and some familiar guests again. I can’t forget to mention all the cute kids that were there as well. I love the little ones!

After the toasts, cake cutting (no smashing here!), bouquet and garter, and fun night of dancing, the Newlyweds headed off to their limousine through an arch of sparklers. It was a pretty exit for a very nice couple. Congratulations to you both!

Post Hurricane Ike news

We evacuated for Ike but are now back safely at home. Our house is fine. We just lost our fence and some major tree branches. Unfortunately, we still don't have power. We're in one of those unlucky locations that won't have electricity until after Monday. boo... I really, really miss my A/C, the refrigerator, the microwave, you name it. But our equipment is fine and our business is ready to go!

For those of you who were coming to see us at the upcoming Bridal Symposium at the Reliant Center, it has been canceled. The Reliant has canceled all events for September. I also heard that they still don't have power. So the next big bridal show we'll be in will be the Bridal Extravaganza in January.

We had one wedding reception scheduled to take place on the Saturday that Ike hit. We kept in contact with the Bride and Groom and they've rescheduled their wedding for November. When something like this happens, we just transfer the money already paid to the new event as long as it takes place within the next 90 days. We don't charge transfer fees or cancelation fees or anything like that, since it's nobody's fault. We 're looking forward to them having great weather on their new wedding date!

We hope all of our clients, past, present, and future, came through the hurricane unscathed and are settling back down into a normal life again. And, when we get power and computer access again, I'll be back with more exciting Premium Sound updates!
